Fully understand the responsibilities of a professional chauffeur

IAM Drive & Survive has developed this course for delegates to fully understand the responsibilities of a professional chauffeur. It encourages the use of a driving style that reduces fuel consumption and vehicle wear and tear, but most importantly increases passenger comfort.

Investment in recognised chauffeur driving training can assist in the marketing of chauffeur services and the recruitment of leading drivers in this field. This course also includes the IAM Driving Test.

Introduction - 1 day

  • Showing them how to drive with care and attention at all times, in a manner designed to make the passengers and other road users feel safe
  • Teaching them the skills required to conduct themselves professionally at all times
  • Demonstrating how to drive while retaining the high levels of awareness required by chauffeurs
  • Addressing the importance of advanced route planning, taking into consideration factors which will affect passenger comfort and safety, and the requirements of driving in a high-risk environment
  • Advising on how to effectively keep passengers safe and secure whilst in the vehicle, and the best methods for safely entering and exiting vehicles
  • Demonstrating how to improve fuel economy
  • Making passengers feel confident in the driver and their skills
  • Providing credibility and status through a verified training programme
  • Helping reduce insurance premiums through a reduction of incidents

Modular course - 1 day

chauffeur-img02In addition to learning the above skills, the delegate will learn how to further develop the skills required of a chauffeur.

The trainer will give a short demonstration drive in order to illustrate more advanced principles of chauffeuring.

The Chauffeur course is a modular course and can be extended from one day to any duration up to five days.

Emphasis will be placed on the delegate understanding:

  • The necessary security checks required when: returning to an unattended vehicle, starting the engine and when helping passengers enter and exit the vehicle
  • The importance of escape routes
  • How to fully appreciate and understand convoy techniques

Professional course - 5 day

As well as gaining a more thorough understanding of the above, the delegate will also benefit by:

  • Being prepared to IAM Advanced Test Standard; including the providence of a daily report which identifies the period of practice required post course – prior to taking the Advanced Test. This course also includes the IAM Driving Test
  • Participating in an in-depth, informative discussion on vehicle dynamics and the causes of losing vehicle control, followed by a session in a skid car. This will focus on skid avoidance, recognition and recovery
  • Learning about a variety of emergency braking techniques and how to safely regain control when being on, or beyond, the limits of available grip
