towing-img02About the course

The course is primarily concerned with exploring the risks associated with the vehicle dimensions, weight and balance, load restraints and manoeuvring. The driver's knowledge and skills on the basic vehicle and trailer checks are assessed including legal considerations.

Drivers will also learn to determine the maximum load of the trailer, and assess the combined train weight and nose wheel weight by using the plates on the trailer and the towing vehicle and handbook.

The driver will demonstrate coupling of the trailer-towing vehicle, with the trainer offering advice as required. Load security, safety procedures and use of coupling aids will also be covered.

The driver will be coached to complete a predetermined course, which will include left and right turns. The trainer will give coaching advice as required on positioning technique, safety margins and other relevant areas.
