Vehicle Familiarisation has been designed by IAM Drive & Survive to introduce the principles of driving an unfamiliar vehicle – primarily helping to develop the driver's awareness of key factors such extended blind spots and positional differences on the approach to junctions.

It helps to reduce driver exposure when using unfamiliar vehicles, whilst helping employers comply with their duty of care and health and safety obligations. It will also help to protect your people, your vehicles and other road users; demonstrating an organisation's commitment to road safety, and helping to protect customer relations and your company's reputation.

Benefits of vehicle familiarisation include:

  • An improved driving workforce
  • Reduction in claims relating to ergonomic issues
  • Driver familiarisation with the vehicle
  • Reduced wear and tear on vehicles
  • Optimum driver performance – including fuel savings
  • Increased driver and passenger confidence
  • Avoidance of unnecessary lapses in concentration
