Driving is the most dangerous task that we submit ourselves to on a daily basis. Continued training is acknowledged to significantly reduce this risk, and with an increasing emphasis being placed on employee duty of care, the demand for credible certified driving instructors is on the rise.

IAM Drive & Survive’s DSA accredited Certified Advanced Trainer (CAT) course is designed to improve the expertise of existing ADIs and provide sound preparation and evidence supporting an application to the DSA (Driving Standards Authority) Fleet Trainer Register.

Over the course of five days, delegates will hone their theoretical road safety knowledge, improve their personal driving skills and learn how to effectively communicate through a series of teaching methods, including classroom based presentations with the help of visual aids.

Preliminary requirements

Course candidates should ensure they have:

• A sound knowledge of Roadcraft, the Highway Code, the DSA manual and Driving – the Essential Skills
• A DSA ADI Certificate

Format

During the course of five days, candidates will be assessed on their knowledge of theory, practical driving skills, role playing, demonstration drives and presentation skills. Feedback is provided following each session along with individual guidance and direction.

Upon completion of the course delegates will receive a certificate of recognition and will be eligible to apply to the DSA for entry onto the Fleet Trainer Register. Delegates may also find that the course opens up a further variety of opportunities, for example: training as a skid car or 4x4 rough terrain specialist.
