This is a specific course aimed at providing minibus, or light commercial vehicle drivers, the means by which they can substantially reduce their vulnerability to preventable driving 'incidents'.

lcvminibus-img01

It has been developed by IAM Drive & Survive to:

  • Help employers comply with duty of care for drivers
  • Meet health and safety obligations
  • Reduce driver vulnerability
  • Help keep drivers and passengers and vehicles safer on the road
  • Demonstrate a commitment to road safety
  • Promote a more professional approach to passenger safety
  • Help develop a better standard of driver
  • Reduce accidents / incidents and ultimately costs
  • Control and/or reduce insurance premiums
  • Help with brand / image protection
  • Keeping the 'clean van' image – as the most expensive accident is the first one, when the commercial vehicle is perceived as no longer being new
  • Help the driver deal with distractions (ie minibus passengers)

About the course

Considerable emphasis will be given to the need for constant observation and the problems associated with restricted vision when driving a van or minibus, in particular at angled junctions and in reversing situations.

This course also provides a safe learning environment that allows the participant to:

  • Develop techniques for avoiding problems whilst parking and low speed manoeuvring in confined spaces
  • Optimise the use of mirrors to overcome vision restrictions associated with certain vehicles
  • Understand load weight and weight distribution considerations, in respect of safe and effective braking, steering and cornering
  • Consider vehicle dimensions, in respect of the proximity of other road users and inanimate objects that might cause vehicle damage
