Employers have an obligation to provide a risk assessment for any employees considered to be exposed to manageable risk. This includes risk associated with driving for work purposes, irrespective of whether the vehicle in question has been provided by the employer or not. To meet this need, IAM Drive & Survive has developed the Individual Driver Risk Assessment (IDRA).
If you have already subscribed to the IDRA programme, click HERE to go direct to the online assessment login page.
IDRA is a specifically designed, IAM Drive & Survive programme. Not only is it interactive, informative and user friendly, but it is also able to assess the degree to which a driver has concern about specific risk situations, identifying far more clearly the driver’s likely behaviour in real life situations.

It also provides a degree of useful safety-related information during the process, so is far more than a simple assessment. It analyses the drivers’ knowledge of driving rules and regulations, their attitude towards the business of driving itself and also the specific driving environment in which they normally carry out their work duties. The product is particularly useful for assessing the likely aptitude and safety rating of new recruits to a business.
IDRA is now a recognised first step of any driver risk management programme.

About the course
The IAM Drive & Survive Individual Driver Risk Assessment (IDRA) is quite unlike other risk assessment products in the market place, which tend to be nothing more than hazard perception tests - similar to those being introduced for the basic driving test.
Once the participant has completed the IDRA, a risk rating is calculated for that individual, based on their responses. Using this data, a report is compiled and sent to the main customer contact. The report effectively becomes the recommendation for further risk-reducing action in the future.
There are two versions, one specifically for drivers of cars, car-derived vans and minibuses and one for drivers of large goods vehicles (LGVs).
Whichever risk assessment is applicable to your situation, it will make an important contribution to managing road risk.

How this saves you money
The IAM Drive & Survive method of identifying risk can save organisations a great deal of time and money. If each person who drives on company business was to be assessed in vehicle, you could be looking at a price of between £250 - £400 per day. Realistically you would only get six people assessed in one day and they would all have to be at the same location to achieve this.
For a fraction of that cost IDRA offers a comprehensive risk assessment which has been designed by industry experts from insurance, fleet, risk and Health & Safety departments who understand why, where and when accidents happen.
IDRA allows drivers to complete the programme at their own time, own location and any time of the day or night. Not only will it take them a fraction of the time – it will identify risk in two key areas; environment (where, when you drive) and how many miles you drive.
This information is analysed against insurance data of high-risk situations of when and where accidents happen.
The individual then completes a series of questions based around five high-risk scenarios they will face on the road. These incidents will also be identified by the employer as typically appearing in their top five recorded accident areas.
This gives the system credibility in offering assessments related to real life. Organisations realise that their staff are not unique, and probably reasonable drivers that need some support and guidance to eliminate complacency and correct bad habits.

IDRA will identify where the individual is most at risk and apply a risk rating based on the answers given and recorded. This data is made available to the employer along with our recommendations.
Organisations that have completed IDRA find it an efficient way of assessing their drivers and starting a risk management programme. With IDRA’s risk assessment report, the employer can direct funds towards those that need training and budget accordingly, as opposed to paying for all drivers to do the same training. The data received from the risk assessment report can also be coupled together with other data such as accident analysis, driver licence checking and grey fleet.
As IDRA is an online assessment programme, it offers participants real flexibility and ensures drivers are not taken away from their day to day jobs.
